FOUNDATIONS IN VISUAL ARTS

We are continuing to work on our Painting Unit. Once you've completed the Color Chart and Negative Space/Black & White Painting, you will begin the 3-painting series of color paintings.
The first painting in the series is a MONOCHROMATIC piece. Choose one SECONDARY color that you will TINT and SHADE. The basis of your painting will use circles in a VARIETY of sizes with an ASYMMETRICAL composition. The focus of your MONOCHROMATIC Painting are edge control, tinting and shading, as well as creating various transparencies and opacities.
The second painting in this series is based on the work of British artist, BRIDGET RILEY (above) and OP ART. Your painting will use COMPLEMENTARY colors in a design that creates an OPTICAL ILLUSION.  Tinting and Shading will also play into your piece. The initial drawing of your painting is crucial to its success.
The third painting in the series asks you to create a SYMMETRICALLY designed composition using INORGANIC or GEOMETRIC lines and shapes. The color scheme for this piece will utilize ANALOGOUS colors plus TINTING and SHADING.
Along with these 3 paintings, please complete the Reading and Worksheet on
"OP ART: Featuring Bridget Riley."

  N.C. Wyeth Drawing
  DUE DATE: MONDAY JANUARY 24
Our latest drawing project is an illustrative piece based on the work of Maine artist, N.C. Wyeth. We will illustrate an historical event (such as Paul Revere's ride, top) or a moment from a well-known story (such as Robin Hood, bottom) using the compositional and artistic techniques of Wyeth.
In his day, N.C. Wyeth used live models dressed in full costume to pose as cowboys or vikings for him in his studio. From there he would incorporate a setting and a background to place them in context.

Your drawing will require you to use figures found on the internet or posed for you and then incorporated in to your own drawing.

No matter if your piece is historical or fictional, your drawing should demonstrate the following:
Figure or Figures (human)
Position of Viewer
Asymmetrical compostion
Foreground, middleground, background
Diagonals
Dramatic spotlighting
Symbolism
Triangular compostion
